What is the Compliance and Privacy (CAP) Roadshow:

To address staff awareness and outreach, most compliance offices have an annual open house where they focus on the needs of the staff regarding compliance awareness, training, and education.  Since Travis County continues to remain 75% remote, the CAP office now brings the open house to you, as the CAP ROADSHOW.

For the past several months, the CAP office has conducted onsite visits with some of the Hybrid Order divisions (Juvenile Probation, HHS and Veteran Services).  Where we focus on interaction with the staff, developing relationships and awareness of compliance and privacy issues and concerns.

One of the primary goals is to bridge the gap for understanding what the CAP office does and what responsibility we hold.   For starters we aren’t just a HIPAA focused office.  We handle all reported data privacy concerns for the entire County.  We’re responsible for ensuring that staff are well equipped to handle and properly secure sensitive privacy data.

The roadshow provides an opportunity for Travis County staff to personally interact, socialize and provide feedback directly to the Compliance and Privacy Officer, support staff and their leadership without it being in a formal setting.  We talked, laugh, play games, win prizes, enjoy some snacks, and address privacy updates.

We also share what the CAP team does, how we can be of more service, what mechanisms are available to report privacy incidents, while answering questions, and providing insight into some of the most common incidents that occurred throughout the year.   We want to make sure that all Travis County employees play a vital role in being good data stewards when it comes to knowing how to protect HIPAA and Privacy data.

If your division isn’t listed under the Hybrid Order, but you have interest in participating in a roadshow event, please contact our office and we will work towards getting you scheduled or extending an invitation to our next event.
