Data Privacy Day is January 28, and kicks off Data Privacy Week, which runs from January 21 – January 28, 2024!

Everyone’s lives are intricately woven into today’s digital fabric, with every online interaction leaving a trace of personal data. In 2024, the landscape of data privacy is dynamic, presenting both opportunities for autonomy and challenges that demand our attention. From threats to data breaches, the need for individuals to pay more attention and take control of their data has never been more apparent. Data Privacy is everyone’s responsibility!

History of Data Privacy Day and Data Privacy Week
Data Privacy Day began in the United States and Canada in January of 2008. Data Privacy Week is an extension of Data Protection Day in Europe, which commemorates the January 28, 1981, signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. Convention 108 has been described as “the seed from which the right to data protection sprouted” and the basis for Data Protection Day. In 2021, the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) expanded Data Privacy Day into Data Privacy Week because your data is important.

Purpose
Data Privacy Week is about raising awareness, the importance of protecting personal information and promoting privacy best practices. Online privacy protection refers to actions taken to safeguard your data and control who can access it.
Data privacy should always be at the forefront of everyone’s mind!
