Under the guidelines of county policy, we work with all departments to promote the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and economic. We help the county as a whole to implement green initiatives, move towards sustainable business practices, and support a circular economy.

Toner Program

There are many types of universal waste produced by the County, including toner and ink cartridges. The toner ambassador program allows for all employees to properly dispose of their used cartridges. This not only saves the County money in disposal costs but has the potential for generating revenue as well! It is in Travis County’s waste management policy to recycle used toner and ink cartridges, so if you would like to learn more about the toner ambassador program, follow this link: Become a Toner Ambassador

Purpose: Request pallet pickup for your location to send in spent toner cartridges to be recycled.

Pallet pickup is for toner cartridges only. Members with 300+ toner cartridges at one time can schedule a pallet pickup.

Procedure:

1. Collect and prepare cartridges for shipment.

  • You must return a minimum of 3 pallets at a time.
  • Place a minimum of 100 laser toner cartridges on each pallet. Place toner cartridges in separate boxes. Keep cartridges in original packaging or wrap them individually for protection. Pallet height should not exceed 7 feet. Shrink-wrap the entire pallet.

2. Enter your pallet pickup request online. See instructions for how to do this on the next page.

  • The Office Depot Logistics team will complete the shipping request and send you an e-mail containing the following information:
    • Pick up date and designated carrier authorized for the pallet pick up.
    • Pallet tag which is to be attached to each pallet of cartridges included in this shipment.
    • Bill of Lading which is to be provided to the carrier picking up the shipment.
  • The carrier will typically pick up the pallets within 3 business days after request has been submitted.

3. Label your pallet and ship it.

  • Affix pallet labels to each pallet – it is best to shrink wrap around this label if possible. Note: Please print four pallet label tags for each pallet and affix a label to each side of the pallet.
  • Communicate to your shipping personnel all pertinent shipping information, advising them of the scheduled pickup.

Make a copy of the Bill of Lading for your records.

To request a pickup online:

  1. Open Office Depot’s My Business Recycles website.
  2. Once this page appears, enter the login information for your location and click login.
  3. Once logged in this page will appear. To order a free recycling box or prepaid shipping label, click Pallet Pickup.
  4. This page will appear. Fill out the information for your location and click send.
