Roles and Responsibilities

The Maintenance and Repair Division (MRD) provides comprehensive maintenance and repair services and provides timely and effective routine and preventive maintenance and repairs of County buildings in support of the County’s operations. MRD is organized into two teams:

  • The West Team is responsible for 36 County buildings totaling 1,540,700 square feet of County buildings.
  • The East team is responsible for 28 County buildings totaling 1,561,584 square feet of County buildings.

The Maintenance and Repair Division staff utilizes the computerized Work Order system to access all requests. MRD responds to both reactive and proactive services and maintains a customer-focused response. MRD focuses on providing excellent customer service and the MRD staff interacts with the customer to ensure that the customer is totally satisfied with the service performed.

The Maintenance and Repair Division’s goal is to be proactive and implement preventive and predictive maintenance procedures so that the division can self-identify many maintenance issues long before a repair is needed. This goal comes from our staff’s awareness and determination to excel. Still, the County will experience unexpected facility-related issues and our customers rely on us to provide prompt service appropriate to the impact of the issue.

All maintenance requests can be submitted electronically at any time through Facilities Work Order system on the Travis Central intranet or reported to the MRD Dispatcher at extension 4-9500. Attached is a user manual outlining the steps needed to enter a FMD work order.

The Maintenance and Repair Division hires competent and knowledgeable building maintenance technicians who are trained to the highest standards and are provided the resources necessary to deal with the maintenance demands and situations that arise in the building maintenance arena.

Every technician is expected to achieve a high level of training and certification for his area of expertise.

  • Electricians, from journeyman to master level, are licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
  • Master plumber is licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE).
  • Maintenance technicians certified in backflow prevention through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
  • Heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) technicians receive certifications from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
