The Operations Division supports Travis County’s mission and core values by providing exemplary service that that is both effective and efficient. Its employees are its most valuable resource, and by engaging and empowering its personnel to take ownership and pride in their work, Division management is able to provide innovative approaches while delivering a clean, sanitary and safe environment for Travis County employees and members of the pubic. Its employees are dedicated to giving exceptional customer service while keeping more than 1,000 square miles of property safe, functional, and attractive.

The Operations Division is structured into three branches that can, and often do, intersect:

  • Custodial Operations are the stewards of our 81 buildings and more than 3 million square feet of space. While maintaining two shifts of staff, the Custodial Operations supervisors ensure that daily, weekly, and other time-driven tasks are completed, such as emptying all waste and recycling containers; vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and waxing flooring; cleaning entry doors and windows/glass inside and out; dusting furniture, and ensuring our facilities are safe to enter and pleasing to the eye. Much more than this, our custodial stewards monitor our hallways and public areas for trip hazards, general neatness, and constantly look for ways to improve services.
  • Groundskeeping Operations stewards maintain the appearance of buildings, parking garages, and some of them in all seasons and weather. They mow, clip trees and bushes, handle weed control, and pick up trash and other debris. They perform light building and parking lot maintenance for all Travis County facilities, parking spaces, grounds, and sidewalks.
  • Moving Operations works closely with other FMD divisions and Travis County departments to ensure that employees and the public have everything needed to function at optimum efficiency. From small desk setups to major department moves between facilities, these employees prepare items for transport; load; unload; and drive the moving truck. There are no typical days as the needs for each of their customers are unique, and as such Moving and Storage Operations workers must also be flexible and display flawless customer service skills.
