Scope

All policies apply to all Travis County workforce members including, but not limited to full-time employees, part-time employees, trainees, volunteers, contractors, temporary workers, and anyone else granted access to Travis County assets, resources, and/or information. These policies also apply to all systems, networks, and applications, as well as all facilities, which process, store, maintain, or transmit information, including all data classification levels (See Data Classification Policy TC-ITS-402). All employees are subject to accountability as outlined per Acceptable Use Policy in Travis County Code, Chapter 110.

Responsibilities

The Chief Information Officer (CIO), or their designee, will be responsible for overseeing the acquisition and design of IT tools (all systems, networks, and applications, as well as all facilities, which process, store, maintain, or transmit information, including all data classification levels).

Information Security’s mission and vision is to safeguard personal and institutional data through a culture of shared responsibility and accountability by collaboratively creating a risk-aware culture that places high value on efficiently protecting information entrusted to Travis County.

Management is responsible for counselling of individual users for the inappropriate use of these tools.

End users are responsible for the appropriate use of these tools to complete their jobs duties as needed.

Compliance

Failure to comply with any security policy will result in disciplinary actions as per the Sanction Policy. Legal actions also may be taken for violations of applicable regulations and standards such as the Privacy Act of 1974, Texas Business and Commerce Code (521.002, 521.053), Texas Medical Privacy Act, HIPAA, HITECH, CJIS, and others.
